This blog will recommend titles of YA Literature that I have recently read and want others to discover as well. Enjoy! Under each post is the "Comment" option. Feel free to share your opinions about each of the books so that other students can read your opinions as well.

You might have noticed the recent makeover each of the posts got. I rearranged the posts so that the summaries are hidden. If you are curious about a book and want to know more about it, click on "Read more >>", the summaries are hidden there for more information. Have fun!

Stitches: A Memoir

Title: Stitches: A Memoir
Author: David Small
Genre: Graphic Novel

You will like this book if:
  • You like graphic novels or memoirs.
  • You are angry about the way your parents treat you.
  • You think about things in pictures.
  • You have ever had a major illness that has shaped your life.
You will not like this book if:
  • You prefer books with more words than pictures.
  • You are not interested in other people's sad stories.
  • You love all parents and think that they always do what is best for their children.
Summary: Stitches is the true story of David Small's (the author's) life.  David's parents were cold and cruel, but perhaps the cruelest thing they did was ignore the growing bump on David's neck.  This growing bump (perhaps a result of his father's medical testing) turned out to not only be cancerous but the necessary surgery took his voice box.  That means that David actually lost his voice.  Small's pictures are creepy, grotesque, fascinating, and tell a deeply depressing story.  Awesome graphic novel!
