Our history classes teach us about the American Revolution, and they teach us about slavery in our coutnry.  However, how many people think about both of these major historical events together-about slavery during the American Revolution?  Chains is the story of a slave, Isabel, who was sold to a well-to-do Loyalist (supported England during the war) family in New York City.  Isabel and her sister are trying to survive and gain their freedom when a terrible tragedy makes Isabel act in ways she would never have dreamt possible.  Should she be a spy for the Americans?
