Looking for a good book to read?

Looking for a good book to read? You found the right place! I love Young Adult Literature and love recommending interesting titles to my students even more. This blog will recommend titles of YA Literature that I have recently read and want others to discover as well. Enjoy! Under each post is the "Comment" option. Feel free to share your opinions about each of the books so that other students can read your opinions as well.

You might have noticed the recent makeover each of the posts got. I rearranged the posts so that the summaries are hidden. If you are curious about a book and want to know more about it, click on "Read more >>", the summaries are hidden there for more information. Have fun!

They Called Themselves the K.K.K.

Title: They Called Themselves the K.K.K.
Author: Susan Campbell Bartoletti
Genre: Nonfiction

You will like this book if:
  • You like to read nonfiction books.
  • You are interested in the darker sides of our country's history.
  • You want to learn new things as you read.
  • You appreciate the work an author puts in as they write a book.
You will not like this book if:
  • You prefer to read fiction.
  • You are disturbed when you read about hate crimes and violence.
  • You want to know more about present day White Supremacy groups.
Summary:

The cover and the topic seem unsavory and definitely get people's attention.  But never before has the history of this very influential group been put together in such an easy-to-read (and be interested in) format for teen readers.  Bartoletti traces back the history of the Ku Klux Klan and tells its story through their eyes, their leaders' perspectives, and the point of view of their victims.  The history is traced from its origins (4 guys sitting around) to the steps the U.S. Government took to prosecute its members and ensure that change and freedom for all would last.
