Looking for a good book to read?

Looking for a good book to read? You found the right place! I love Young Adult Literature and love recommending interesting titles to my students even more. This blog will recommend titles of YA Literature that I have recently read and want others to discover as well. Enjoy! Under each post is the "Comment" option. Feel free to share your opinions about each of the books so that other students can read your opinions as well.

You might have noticed the recent makeover each of the posts got. I rearranged the posts so that the summaries are hidden. If you are curious about a book and want to know more about it, click on "Read more >>", the summaries are hidden there for more information. Have fun!

A Northern Light

Title: A Northern Light
Author: Jennifer Donnelly
Genre: Historical Fiction

You would like this book if:
  • You like to read Historical Fiction.
  • You have ever made up a word to describe something.
  • You admire books that win awards.
  • You become fascinated by real-life murder mysteries.
You would not like this book if:
  • You like to read books that take place in modern time.
  • You need a lot of action in the books you read.
  • You prefer books that have a male main character.
  • You like your books to grab your interest in the very first page.
Summary:  There isn't a word to describe Mattie but if there was she would be able to find it.  Mattie wants more than anything to have an education and to make something of herself but there are a few things that threaten to get in her way.  First, the entire burden of her family rests on her shoulders.  Second, she has agreed to enter into a marriage that is merely conveinent, nothing more.  Lastly, she has gotten herself involved in a murder investigation.  Based on a true murder that occurred in the early 20th centure in upstate New York, Mattie's story perfectly weaves together reality and imagination.  Hang in there when you read this one!  It starts out pretty slowly.
