Looking for a good book to read? You found the right place! I love Young Adult Literature and love recommending interesting titles to my students even more. This blog will recommend titles of YA Literature that I have recently read and want others to discover as well. Enjoy! Under each post is the "Comment" option. Feel free to share your opinions about each of the books so that other students can read your opinions as well.

You might have noticed the recent makeover each of the posts got. I rearranged the posts so that the summaries are hidden. If you are curious about a book and want to know more about it, click on "Read more >>", the summaries are hidden there for more information. Have fun!

The Rise of Renegade X

Title: The Rise of Renegade X
Author: Chelsea Campbell
Genre: Fantasy

You will like this book if:
  • You like to read about superheroes and supervillians, but not the cheesey kinds.
  • You like main characters who are snarky and endearing at the same time.
  • You want to read a book that is imaginative and unique.
  • Sometimes you feel like you don't fit properly into one group or another.
You will not like this book if:
  • You like to skim books.  This book has same very small details that can get confusing if you miss.
  • You want all characters, major or minor, to be realistic and consistent.
  • You like books that are based in reality.
  • You are not tolerant of teenagers' disrespect for their parents.

Summary: Damien Locke is going to get a sweet present for his 16th birthday: he is going to get the V on his thumb that proves that he is the supervillian that he knows he is destined to be.  He has been raised by his supervillian mother and plans on going to the infamous Vilmore, the supervillian school, in the fall.  However when he gets an X, he realizes that he isn't a supervillian-he is worse.  He is half supervillian and half superhero, apparently his dad is the Crimson Flash, a famous do-gooder.  Eventually, the world of villany or heroism will claim him, but for now his father tries to get him to put his evil thoughts aside and learn something about the world of heroes.  Along the way, Damien stumbles across some tricky romantic relationships and situations that make it obvious which world he will lean toward eventually, even if it isn't obvious for him. There is mature content in this book.

I thought this book was predictable, tedious, and annoying.  But that doesn't mean you won't like it!  I loved the premise of the book: supervillians and superheroes with a character who is a bit of both.  If you are curious, you should check it out!
