Looking for a good book to read?

Looking for a good book to read? You found the right place! I love Young Adult Literature and love recommending interesting titles to my students even more. This blog will recommend titles of YA Literature that I have recently read and want others to discover as well. Enjoy! Under each post is the "Comment" option. Feel free to share your opinions about each of the books so that other students can read your opinions as well.

You might have noticed the recent makeover each of the posts got. I rearranged the posts so that the summaries are hidden. If you are curious about a book and want to know more about it, click on "Read more >>", the summaries are hidden there for more information. Have fun!

The Pull of Gravity

Title: The Pull of Gravity
Author: Gae Polisner
Genre: Contemporary Realistic Fiction

You will like this book if:
  • You want to read a more mature, different take of Freak the Mighty.
  • You like Of Mice and Men and might see themes of that book in others.
  • You like road trip stories.
  • You have ever known a mysterious, confusing person who you are totally crushing on.
  • You question your parents and their decisions often.
You will not like this book if:
  • You are frustrated by characters that are written to be so unique that they become exactly what you expect.
  • You like to read fantasy, sci-fi, or stories of rebellion against a cause.
  • You prefer to read books that are upbeat.
Summary: Nick Gardner's life isn't going very well at the moment: his bff/neighbor, the Scoot, is dying and his dad just took off on some soul-searching walk to New York City in an effort to either run away from his troubles, to lose weight, or both.  Things get turned even more upside down when he meets the adorable, quirky, totally confusing Jaycee Amato.  When Jaycee suggests they go on a mission for the Scoot, Nick finds it hard to turn down anything she requests.  Armed with nothing but a few bucks and an old (and super valuable) copy of Of Mice and Men the pair takes off on a journey of their own.  In parts this book is funny, sad, and thought-provoking but all in all, pretty realistic.
