Looking for a good book to read?

Looking for a good book to read? You found the right place! I love Young Adult Literature and love recommending interesting titles to my students even more. This blog will recommend titles of YA Literature that I have recently read and want others to discover as well. Enjoy! Under each post is the "Comment" option. Feel free to share your opinions about each of the books so that other students can read your opinions as well.

You might have noticed the recent makeover each of the posts got. I rearranged the posts so that the summaries are hidden. If you are curious about a book and want to know more about it, click on "Read more >>", the summaries are hidden there for more information. Have fun!

How I Live Now

Title: How I Live Now
Author: Meg Rosoff
Genre: Contemporary Realistic Fiction (with a little Fantasy thrown in)

You will like this book if:
  • You wonder what the world would be like if international war broke out.
  • You have dreamed of going to live with an extended family that lives in another country.
  • You like to read novels of how people survive in nature.
  • You like Night (by Elie Wiesel) but want something that is significantly less depressing, much less severe, not about the Holocaust, and is purely imagined.
  • You like the books you read to have romance or be an award-winner.
You will not like this book if:
  • You don't like to wonder about an author's word choice or writing style.
  • You prefer books with male major characters.
  • You are afraid to imagine the world breaking out in war.
Summary: Daisy leaves her hard-to-relate-to family and Manhattan behind to live a seemingly perfect new life in rural England.  She takes up a new home with her Aunt Penn and her cousins Osbert, Issac, Piper, and of course Edmond.  She is leaving an idyllic life with her cousins, and especially Edmond, when a series of terrible events occur that strand her in England and makes war break out across the planet.  While the family of children has survived unsupervised very successfully, they have to discover how to live when they are seperated.  How will they live without each other?  How will they live and survive during war?  Could you make it on your own with death, starvation, loneliness and war staring at you in the face every day?  This novel tells the story of Daisy and the way she lives now.
