Looking for a good book to read?

Looking for a good book to read? You found the right place! I love Young Adult Literature and love recommending interesting titles to my students even more. This blog will recommend titles of YA Literature that I have recently read and want others to discover as well. Enjoy! Under each post is the "Comment" option. Feel free to share your opinions about each of the books so that other students can read your opinions as well.

You might have noticed the recent makeover each of the posts got. I rearranged the posts so that the summaries are hidden. If you are curious about a book and want to know more about it, click on "Read more >>", the summaries are hidden there for more information. Have fun!

Birthmarked

Title: Birthmarked
Author: Caragh M. O'Brien
Genre: Science Fiction

You would like this book if:
  • You like books with strong female characters.
  • You like books that take place "sometime in the near future".
  • You like puzzles and riddles within the novels you read.
  • You like reading dystopian literature.
  • You liked The Giver.
You wouldn't like this book if:
  • You like to read realistic books.
  • You want a resolution immediately.
Fun Fact #1: UPDATE!  Birthmarked is going to be the first in a trilogy.  I just found out that the 2nd book, Prized, is set to be released in November 2011.  I will have to check it out!
Summary: Gaia, a midwife (someone who delivers babies), has always served the Enclave faithfully while living outside its walls.  She has never questioned their laws, even the laws that demands she and her mother turn over the first 3 children born each month to the government officials.  However her loyalty is tested when her seemingly innocent parents are arrested and charged with crimes against the state.  Gaia bravely travels within the forbidden walls to rescue her parents and rebel against the injustice she is discovering.  I anticipate a sequel "sometime in the near future".
